MMED Recognized for Reliable Service to the Community

Mansfield Municipal Electric has received national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2016. The recognition comes from the American Public Power Association (www.PublicPower.org), a trade group that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.

The Association helps members track outage and restoration data through its subscription-based eReliability Tracker service and then compares the data to national statistics tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration for all types of electric utilities.

“This recognition helps demonstrate public power’s commitment to reliable electric service,” said the Association’s Senior Vice President of Engineering Services, Michael Hyland.

Public power has a strong track record of reliability, said Hyland. Nationwide, the average public power customer has their lights out for less than half the time, compared to other types of utilities.

“We are proud to receive this recognition from the APPA. It is a testament to the hard work of all our staff to ensure that the lights stay on for all our customers,” said Frank Delvecchio, Chairman of the Mansfield Board of Commissioners.

“The award is a direct result of many dedicated people over the years from our Board and our entire staff that have invested to build and maintain a very reliable infrastructure,” said Joe Sollecito, Director of Mansfield Municipal Electric Department.

Net Metering Update - June 14, 2017

On June 5, 2017, the Board of Light Commissioners voted to approve a new Net Metering rate tariff (MDPU 147) effectively lifting the previously adopted cap on any new solar installations for MMED customers.  This new tariff goes into effect July 01, 2017.

Prospective solar customers must submit an application to get Preliminary approval.  Once authorized, a customer will have six months to install and have the system approved for Final Acceptance of the solar array for the net metering program.  Please contact Chris Cox at 508-261-7361 for complete details.
